Shower Gel

Another little off-topic recipe here, Shower Gel – how to save $$.

I’m tired of paying an arm and a leg for shower gel from the supermarket…did you know you can make over 2L of shower gel using this recipe – most of the shower gel containers are around 700ml so start putting them away!! You can also use this same recipe for hand soap as well.

Shower Gel

Ingredients

  • 1 bar sunlight soap
  • 2L water
  • 1/2 cup fractionated coconut oil
  • 20 drops essential oil (doTERRA preferred – ask me where to get it!)

Seriously, you’ll kick yourself when you see how easy this is!

In a large pot, add the grated soap, water and fractionated coconut oil. Stir over medium heat until the soap melts. Remove from heat and let it sit overnight.

After you’ve let it sit, add 20 drops (or more) of pure essential oil (don’t use the cheap crappy stuff – this is going onto your body remember – and the skin is the largest organ in the body, absorbing everything it comes in contact with!!). Beat until thick and creamy. Pour into shower gel containers. We use a medium sized funnel – make sure you pour it slowly as it will foam up.

NOTE: It really does need to sit overnight – you’ll find the next day that the mixture has gone really thick and gooey – this is what you want! Hello Shower Gel!

If you find the mixture too runny – add more grated soap – you can re-melt this and re-do the batch without losing anything. If you find that it separates a little, gently shake the container its in.

A note about fractionated coconut oil.

This is not normal coconut oil – this oil does not solidify like coconut oil does. You can buy fractionated coconut oil at the supermarket for a reasonable price. This oil can be used for many things, including cooking and salad dressings, etc. It can also be used as a carrier oil for essential oils when used in massage – a great item to keep handy!

Zucchini Fritters

These zucchini fritters are an easy and quick snack!
Zucchini Fritters
Zucchini Fritters - ingredients

What a great weekend lunch to make – zucchini fritters! My meat-loving family were lined up and waiting for these as soon as they hit the pan! Be a little daring and put some of Chilli Paste in the mix as well!

Ingredients:

  • 4 zucchini
  • 2 eggs
  • 1C grated parmesan
  • 1 corn cob
  • garlic
  • salt and pepper

Using a damp, clean Chux wipe (or teatowel), grate the zucchini over the cloth. Bunch up the corners of the cloth, gathering the edges together. Squeeze/wring out the excess liquid and discard excess liquid. Place grated zucchini in a large bowl.

Grate the parmesan or similar cheese finely. Add grated cheese, corn kernels, eggs, garlic, salt and pepper to the bowl.

Heat up some oil in a pan, we use peanut oil. Drop spoonfuls of mixture into the hot oil and cook until golden. Remove from pan and place on paper towel to drain excess oil.

That’s it!! Tucker time šŸ™‚

Chicken with Tortilla

Looking for a quick easy meal then this Chicken with Tortilla is just for you!

This recipe is part of our “1 Chicken – 4 Meals – 3 People” series.

A couple of days before, I had seen a post on Facebook for Mexican chicken – it was a post shared fromĀ My LitterĀ by a friend – the photo belongs to My Litter, I have modified the recipe as some things are not available in Australia. Ā This was the start of my inspiration. Ā

You will need:
  • 2 large chicken breasts
  • 2 large tomatoes
  • 250g Philadelphia cream cheese
  • powdered burrito mix (we used Old El Paso)
  • tin of corn kernels
  • tin of black beans (in the Mexican section at the supermarket)
  • 1 small chili (to taste)
  • a packet of tortillas (or make your own – they are only flour, water and effort!)

In either an oven proof dish, pressure cooker, or crockpot – put the whole chicken breasts in the bottom of the pot. Drain off the corn kernels and add. Drain and rinse off the black beans and also add to the pot. Add the cream cheese, burrito mix, the chili and chop up the tomatoes as well – all these go into the pot – don’t worry about mixing it, just pop it all in.

(photo from My Litter)

If you are cooking it in the pressure cooker – I cooked it on 2 curry cycles (about 22 minutes per cycle). Ā If you are cooking it in the slow cooker you need 4 hours on high, or 6 hours on low. In the oven, make sure its covered and bake on about 160deg for 4-6 hours (keep an eye on it).

By far, the pressure cooker is the most energy efficient and fastest way (great if you work long hours). Once it’s cooked, you will not only smell it, but the chicken will just shred with a fork when you mix it all around.
By now, your Mexican chicken will be just about ready. Remove from heat and stir with a fork to shred the chicken – if the chicken totally falls apart – its ready! Ā Refrigerate half of the mixture for another meal (based on serving 3 people). Serve with tortillas, sour cream and cheese – make your own tortillas, its so easy – mix plain flour, water and a dash of olive oil to make a dough, knead until smooth, rest for 10 mins, then roll out very finely – pan fry gently in some oil and serve (yes, I think I just saved you about $6 in tortillas alone).

Spiced Chicken With Rice

You can take this dish one step further over two nights – only use half of the cooked amount of mixture above – for the second dish, reheat and serve with steamed rice.

Toilet cleaning fizz tablets – A little bit of fizz in the toilet goes a long way with natural products.

Ok, so we are a bit off topic here….but, we are the world’s greatest turners (as my brother says, we turn good food into shit, lol)… And seriously, is cleaning the toilet your favourite job in the world? It certainly isn’t mine!

So, how about a better alternative to harsh chemicals? Something that does the job, easy to make, easy to use and doesn’t suck the life out of you when you breathe it in while cleaning?

Introducing toilet bombs! Make them, dry them, store them, chuck one in the toilet!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 cup citric acid (available from most health food shops)
  • 2 cups bicarb soda
  • 20 drops doTERRA lemon essential oil
  • 20 drops doTERRA Purify
  • 20 drops doTERRA OnGuard
  • Spray bottle with a mixture of vinegar, water, Castille soap

Mix together the dry ingredients. Add the essential oils and mix through using your finger tips. Spray the mixture with the spray bottle, mixing as you spray until the mixture becomes damp.

Press into a silicone based ice cube tray. Press down until firm.

Allow to dry over night and then store in an air tight container.

To use, drop one tablet into the toilet, leave for as long as possible, flush.
