As a kid, Pizza Hut was the way to go for pizza….since then, we have mastered the pizza creation scene at our house from the base to the sauce, to “ordinary” toppings to something way more out there bordering on super fancy.
It started with us a few years ago – we decided to buy a wood fired pizza oven. At the time, we were living on the farm so finding wood wasn’t an issue – plus we didn’t have a “normal” oven inside the shouse we were living in (shouse = shed + house). We had been doing all our cooking on the gas barbecue, and were looking for something a bit different. We bought the pizza oven (bloody heavy thing it is too) and then used it for everything from pizza to roasts, fresh bread and more!
There was something comforting in inviting the neighbours around for pizza night with what looked like a gazillion kids in tow and building pizza with about 1 meter of bench space to work with. We did it – successfully! and we all loved it – from the girls all getting together and building pizza to the guys making sure that the fire was well lit and the kids running amok – many wonderful memories were made around that wood fire pizza oven.
So jump on in, and start making your own pizzas with just the right amount of topping and only the things you really love (and its a great way to get rid of left overs). You don’t have to rush out and buy a wood fired pizza oven – you can use normal trays or a pizza tray and just use your normal house oven.
