Pork

Years ago, the advertising on TV was focussed on boosting the Australian pork industry.  “Get some pork on ya fork” was the slogan – it had a kind of strange ring to it that still sticks to me many years later.

Asian Plum Pork

The problem was – I hated pork. The other problem was, I hadn’t actually told my newly wed husband how much I hated pork.  That was 1990.  Fast forward to the current date, and my confession came out after a discussion about how little pork we eat, it kinda went like this:

Hubby:  We don’t cook much pork, do we? (somewhat perplexed and puzzled expression)

Me: Nope.

Hubby: We should try more pork dishes.

Me:  hmm (short, non-committal, non-engaging response)

Hubby: I used to love getting those roast pork rolls with the crackling and gravy from the shop at lunchtime for a treat….

Me: hmm (short, non-committal, non-engaging response)

13 year old son: Yeah mum, why don’t we eat more pork (blunt, straight to the point, put me on the spot – confession time)

Me:  I, ummm, errrr, hate pork

Son:  but you eat bacon!

Me: (sigh) – I can’t say why I don’t like pork, I just don’t like pork…

Hubby and son (together):  can we please just get some and cook it up???

So I caved.  We had some pork, and after a few tries actually got the crackling doing its thing without burning and I have to admit, I started to enjoy a bit of pork.

Over the last few years, I’ve accumulated a few tried, loved, and tested (and repeated) recipes:

  • Pork sausage rolls
  • Asian Style Spicy Pork
  • Pork Belly
  • Orange Pork
  • Pork, mince and bacon dogs
